The second session of the 66th General Assembly has convened. We hit the floor running this year, hearing bills in committees in the first three days which, in the past, had been largely ceremonial.
There is much to do, and it will have to be done in incremental steps. The Governor had task forces or commissions studying transportation and P-20 education over the interim. The previous governor had started a commission to study the healthcare system. Those reports will need to be heard and decisions made on how to go forward. The legislature had interim committees dealing with severance taxes and how it is distributed, the mentally ill in the criminal justice system, the waiting list for services for the developmentally disabled, and others.
What I continue to hear from House District 30 citizens is that your concerns continue to be healthcare (access/insurance/costs), our aging and inadequate transportation system, and education reform. I am so honored to have been elected to be part of that debate and take your views to the legislature.
